The Accelerated Reader program is a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. Students get a percentage of these points based on how many of the test questions they get correct. The program tracks their progress over the course of the school year.​

Two features that can be helpful to parents are the “AR BookFinder” and “Renaissnace Home Connect” sites.  AR Book Finder can help you identify the reading level of a particular book your child is reading.  The Renaissance Home Connect feature allows you to log on and see your child’s progress on assessments within the AR program.  A sheet containing your username and password will be sent home in your child’s take-home folder.  Please keep this log in information for use with the Renaissance Home Connect program.
