As the spring semester continues on, so does all of the FFA activities. The start of the county and district stock show, looking forward to OYE, and all of the other many fun things the Laverne FFA does during this time. This past week has been no different with the Laverne FFA putting lots of hours of travel, hard work, and success into the books.
Starting on January 31st, Kylen and Kasyn Kamp took on this year's Oklahoma Bred Swine Exposition Livestock Show. At this show the Kamp boys had lots of success. Their results from this show are as follows: Grand Commercial Gilt, 5th Overall Berkshire Gilt, 4th Overall Hampshire Barrow, 4th Overall Poland Barrow, 12th Overall Light Cross Barrow, and 8th Overall Dark Cross Barrow. Congratulations Kasyn and Kylen Kamp!
Back in our great small town of Laverne, OK, the Harper County Jr Livestock Show and Premium Auction were held on February 3rd. This is always a great day with many success stories and the opportunity to get to see the Harper county livestock showmen exhibit their wonderful projects. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of those who showed up to support these hard working children during the show and the premium auction. This show would not be near as great without all of the amazing support from the communities of Harper county.
On Wednesday, February 5th the Northwest Area Livestock Judging Contest was held in Enid, Oklahoma. This contest is highly competitive and the Laverne FFA is proud to be so greatly represented. The contestants from the Laverne FFA were Kasyn Kamp, Kylen Kamp, Camdyn Kolbe, and Selah Bentley. They placed 1st in the Senior FFA Division as well as 1st Overall for the entire contest. Kylen Kamp was also the 1st place Senior FFA Individual. We are so thankful for another great year at this contest and can't wait to see what the rest of this livestock judging season has in store.
Last but certainly not least on February 6th, several of Laverne FFA’s members traveled to Woodward, OK for this year's Great Western Shootout Jr. CDE Contest. This contest is hosted by the Shattuck FFA and we would like to extend a big thank you to the Shattuck FFA for putting on this great contest and giving all of these children another awesome opportunity to showcase their talents. The Laverne FFA had many successful students at this contest. The results from this year's Great Western Shootout Jr. CDE Contest are as follows: 3rd Overall Electricity Team, 1st Place Electricity Individual Jafet Garcia, 6th Place Electricity Individual Lakin McAtee, 6th Overall Entomology Team, 1st Overall Floriculture Team, 3rd Overall Floriculture Team, 7th Overall Floriculture Team, 1st Overall Floriculture Individual Heidi Manning, 2nd Overall Floriculture Individual Arlie McAtee, 3rd Overall Floriculture Individual Raiden Newby, 6th Overall Floriculture Individual Ava Riggs, 7th Overall Floriculture Individual Mary Miller, 3rd Overall Food Science Team, 4th Overall Food Science Team, 7th Overall Food Science Team, 4th Overall Food Science Individual Joaho Garcia, 5th Overall Food Science Individual Taden Hart, 6th Overall Natural Resources Team, 7th Overall Natural Resources Team, 4th Overall Natural Resources Individual Dal Bentley, 6th Overall Natural Resources Individual Nate Scott, and 10th Overall Natural Resources Individual Fernando Sanchez. Overall, the Laverne FFA has continued to be successful. As we enter the next few months of busy activities we hope to continue to have fun, work hard, and be successful. As always it's a great day to be a Tiger.
