FFA is a great organization that is full of amazing opportunities but these activities do not happen on their own. Agriculture Education teachers are some of the most hardworking, dedicated, and loyal people you will ever meet. The hours and time spent perfecting and coordinating every detail of their chapter is just a fraction of what ag teachers do throughout the year.
In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the advisor states, “The owl is a time honored symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Being older than the rest of you, I am asked to advise you from time to time as need arises. I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom.” Read along and get to know all about your new ag teacher, Mr. Nathan Lang.
Mr. Lang graduated from Canton High School in May of 2020 with a class of only 22 students. He then attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma and his major was a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education.
Mr. Lang’s beginnings in agriculture were at home where his family raised him in the industry. He grew up on a farm where his family ran a cow calf operation, hay and alfalfa operation, and farmed wheat, rye, triticale, and sorghum. Once Mr. Lang was old enough to join FFA; he quickly started to participate in everything he could. Throughout his years as a member he was in livestock judging, public speaking, made grass bundles for fairs, ag mechanics, shooting sports, he started his showing career with swine in 2015 and ended it with cattle in 2020. His favorite parts of FFA were trying out all the different activities and making friends from other chapters along the way.
From his time in FFA Mr. Lang says he learned that there is so much more to the agriculture industry than crops and cows. His biggest takeaways were learning how to talk and communicate with others, the importance of being a great leader, and building his agriculture literacy that he uses in his everyday life. Lang first realized he wanted to teach ag because FFA gave him a purpose and place in high school and that was something he wanted to share with many generations of ag kids to come. His goal as an ag teacher is to help kids find their spot and help them to succeed in what they love inside of FFA.
Mr. Lang is going to be teaching Ag Orientation, Ag Exploration, Ag 1, Intro to Natural Resources, and co-teach a welding class. He will also help with the goats and swine livestock showing. Mr. Lang looks forward to being able to teach and help with these things as well as help students succeed inside and outside of the classroom.
Some of Mr. Lang’s favorites include hunting, working on vehicles, welding, bow fishing, and hanging out at his family farm. When it comes to favorite foods Lang loves seafood and anything breakfast food. He also enjoys watching old westerns and listening to all types of music from heavy metal to 70’s country and everything in between.
Mr. Lang would like to thank the community for the warm welcome and this amazing opportunity to work at Laverne Schools. The Laverne FFA Chapter is excited to have Mr. Lang and can't wait to get to work this year!
