Summer is a time of traveling,hanging out with friends and family, and of course FFA. Since the end of the 2023-2024 school year the Lavern FFA has been participating in many summer activities. Read along and find out about all the learnings, successes, and adventures of the Laver FFA this summer.
On June 1st, the FFA traveled to Woodward to serve alongside other northwest Oklahoma FFA Chapters in preparing and serving meals to all of the K101 Classic Bowl athletes, coaches, band members, and parade participants. After they were done serving they got to experience the annual K101 Classic Bowl Parade and cheer on Laverne students participating in the Classic Bowl activities. Laverne FFA is honored that they were selected for this opportunity to serve at this event. Later on in the month of June the Laverne FFA Officer Team and ag teachers loaded up and headed down to Broken Bow, Oklahoma to enjoy their annual officer retreat. During this time the planned for the upcoming year and did many team building activities.
To start off the month of July the Laverne FFA had the distinct honor of carrying the American Flag in the 50th annual Laverne Independence Day Parade. Many members showed up to help and had lots of fun. Later that day the Laverne FFA partnered with Laverne Student Council to serve the community by holding their annual 4th of July Meals On Wheels. The two organizations prepared, packaged, and delivered over 100 meals to those who could not attend the BBQ dinner in the park. The next event the FFA members went to was the 6th Session of Alumni Leadership Camp in Binger, Oklahoma. At this camp FFA members made valuable relationships, learned how to become better leaders in all parts of their lives, and made memories to last a life time. The six Laverne FFA members who attended this amazing camp were Shane Goodwin, Laura Bradt, Kylen Kamp, Dallie McAtee, Camdyn Kolbe, and Cy Bentley.
Later that month the Laverne FFA took 8 livestock judgers to the NOC Sheep Field Days and Big 3 Livestock Judging events. These members included Ann Bryer, Brecklin Weisbrod, Kylen Kamp, Kaitlyn Thex, Camdyn Kolbe, Dallie McAtee, Selah Bentley, and Laura Bradt. The members spent many hours judging livestock, learning how to improve, and participating in many activities. The group had lots of fun and even came home with some successes. Senior member Kaitlyn Thex tied for 1st on swine day in the Senior FFA Division, the Senior Team was 4th in Swine, and overall came in 16th out of 228 teams. The Junior Team was 41st out of 220 teams. At NOC Sheep Field Days the Laverne FFA was 15th overall.
To end the month of July Parliamentarian Mary Katherine Teal and Historian Dallie McAtee attended the annual Ag Communications Conference and learned many things that they are excited to utilize this upcoming year. Lastly the Laverne FFA served all summer at the local food pantry in packaging, preparing, and delivering meals around the community.
This summer has been jam packed with learning, improving, and most importantly having fun! We are so excited for the year ahead and can not wait to see what it has in store. Stay tuned the Laverne FFA is ready to make this year the best yet!
