Get To Know Your Officers: President Kylen Kamp

As stated in the FFA Opening and Closing ceremonies, “The rising sun is the token of a new era in agriculture. If we follow the leadership of our president, we shall be led out of the darkness of selfishness and into the glorious sunlight of brotherhood and cooperation.” This is a general description of the duties held by a chapter president. Read along and learn all about your 2024-2025 Laverne FFA Chapter President, Kylen Kamp.

Kylen will be a senior this upcoming year at Laverne High School. Kylen is involved in the Laverne First Baptist Church Youth Group and helping his family on their farm and ranch.

Kylen wanted to join FFA because he grew up showing in 4-H and saw the older kids in their blue jackets. He looked up to these FFA members and once he was old enough Kylen joined FFA without hesitation. Inside of his blue corduroy jacket Kylen participates in showing swine, livestock judging, ag mechanics, and many other leadership activities. Kylen’s favorite FFA memory was when they ran out of gas on the side of the road during state convention. Kylen and the others learned to laugh in that moment of an accidental mishap. 

Kylen says that FFA has taught him many things such as how to be a good leader, how to make friends, learning to think outside of the box, and getting out of his comfort zone. Kylen wanted to run for an office because of the encouragement of his peers and family. Kylen thinks that being an officer is a great way to leave a lasting impact on the Laverne FFA chapter. Therefore Kylen’s goals for his last year in FFA are to stay active and competitive individually as well as introduce the newer members to FFA and help them find what they love to do. 

A quote that inspires Kylen comes from Proverbs 3:5-6 and states. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” Some other of Kylen’s favorites include driving a truck and any songs by the band Treaty Oak Revival. Kylen’s biggest inspiration in life is his dad because he works hard for what he has and always encourages Kylen and his brothers to do the same. Kylen says his dad teaches him why it is good to work hard but more importantly to have fun while doing it.
