In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the treasurer states, “I keep record of receipts and disbursements just as Washington kept his farm accounts – carefully and accurately. I encourage thrift among the members and strive to build up our financial standing through savings and investments. George Washington was better able to serve his country because he was financially independent.” This gives only a brief description of the duties and actions carried by a chapter treasurer. Selah will be a senior this upcoming year at Laverne High School. Selah is involved in Laverne High School Track and Cross Country, Laverne Band where she is a Drum Major, and active in the Laverne First Baptist Youth Group.
When asked why she joined FFA Selah said agriculture is something super important to her family and that is a legacy she wants to be a part of. Inside of FFA Selah is involved in livestock judging, showing pigs, and shooting sports. Selah says her favorite FFA memories are anytime she spends with her friends at shows and the feeling she gets when her hard work pays off.
Selah says that FFA has taught her responsibility, time management, hard work, and self confidence. She ran for an office because FFA has taught her so much and she wanted to take the next step of being an officer and leading her chapter to the best of her ability. Selahs main goal for her senior year is to finish FFA by leaving a legacy of someone who loves FFA and has the respect that Laverne is known for.
Selah’s favorite verse comes from Romans 12:2 and it says,” Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Some other favorites of Selah are the color turquoise, and the song “King of My Heart”. Selah's biggest inspiration in life is her mom. Selah says she was the strongest person she knew and always showed God's love through her actions.
