In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the sentinel states, “Through this door pass many friends of the FFA. It is my duty to see that the door is open to our friends at all times and that they are welcome. I care for the meeting room and paraphernalia. I strive to keep the room comfortable and assist the president in maintaining order.” This gives a brief description of the responsibilities the chapter sentinel holds. Read along and learn all about your 2024-2025 Laverne FFA Chapter Sentinel, Cy Bentley.
Cy will be a junior this upcoming year at Laverne High School. Cy is involved in basketball, track, and is a part of the Laverne First Baptist Church Youth Group.
When asked why he wanted to join FFA Cy said that he grew up around the agriculture industry and FFA seemed to be a good way to expand his knowledge. Inside of FFA Cy is active in livestock judging, ag mechanics, prepared public speaking, stocker pens, and shooting sports. Cy’s best FFA memory was when he made it to the state contest in shooting sports.
Cy stated that FFA has not only taught him to weld and judge animals but also how to be a leader and push himself and others to work hard. Cy ran for a chapter office because he wants to make an impact on his chapter and community. He also feels that being an officer gives him a larger platform to educate others on the importance of the agriculture industry and how it impacts everyone's daily lives. Some of Cy’s goals for his time as an FFA officer and as a Laverne FFA member are to show others that FFA is so much more than you think and that everyone can find their place in FFA. He would also like to place at the Oklahoma FFA State Shooting Sports Meet.
A verse that Cy is inspired by is from 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and is says, “ Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This is Cy’s favorite verse because he believes that it is important to be thankful no matter what life throws at you. Some of Cy’s other favorites include the color light blue, any dessert, hunting, fishing, spending time with friends, basketball, the song “Life Is A Highway”, and the movie Cars. Cy says his biggest hero in life is Jesus because there is no better man to ever walk the Earth.
His friends describe him as funny, caring, and always joyful. Your 2024-2025 Laverne FFA Chapter Sentinel, Cy Bentley.
