In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the chaplain states “The symbol of my office is the Keystone. The keystone is crucial to holding everything together, just as the Chaplain is essential to influencing the lives of members by providing spiritual guidance to those who seek direction.” This gives a brief description of the responsibilities held by a chapter chaplain. Read along and get to know your 2024-2025 Laverne FFA Chapter Chaplain, Ben Scott.
Ben will be a senior this upcoming year at Laverne High School. He is involved in Laverne Tiger Band, Laverne Golf, and is a part of the Laverne First Baptist Youth Group.
When asked why he wanted to join FFA Ben stated that his dad, Donnie Scott, was involved in FFA as a high schooler and Ben wanted to follow in those footsteps. Inside of his blue corduroy jacket Ben participates in shooting sports, ag mechanics, and prepared public speaking. Ben’s favorite funny FFA memory was when Lakin did the infamous Jack Sparrow run at the hotel after a long day of attending the Oklahoma FFA State Convention.
Ben says that FFA has taught him that it isn't all about winning. He stated that although no one enjoys losing, the life lessons learned from those loses are the true wins of life. Ben decided to run for an office so that he can encourage others to join FFA to develop their leadership skills and learn the life lessons that he has been taught through this great organization. The growth of the Laverne FFA Chapter membership number is a personal goal of Ben’s while he serves his last year in office.
Ben ‘s favorite verse is, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self control.” 2 Timothy 1:7. He also loves the Zach Bryan lyric, “The devil can scrap but the Lord has won.” He says these two quotes are an inspiration to him and he thinks of them often. Some other favorites of Ben include the color blue, chicken nuggets, any song by Zach Bryan, and the movie 8 Seconds. His biggest inspiration in life is Mr. Wetherell because he has always shown Ben the importance of working hard, being respectful, and has never hesitated to help Ben in any way he can.
He is described by his friends as a good listener, someone who can always make you laugh, and trustworthy. Your 2024-2025 Laverne FFA Chapter Chaplain, Ben Scott.
