Get To Know Your Officers: Parliamentarian Mary Katherine Teal

In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the parliamentarian states,” The symbol of my station is the copy of Robert’s Rules of Order. My obligation is to know and share information about parliamentary law. I assist members in proper meeting procedure and etiquette so that we can accomplish the business of the chapter. I ensure that every member is heard, and that the majority prevails." This gives a brief description of the responsibilities held by a chapter parliamentarian. Read along and get to know your 2024-2025 Laverne FFA Chapter Parliamentarian, Mary Katherine Teal.

Mary Katherine will be a sophomore this upcoming year at Laverne High School. She is involved in the Laverne High School Choir, Academic Team, Laverne First Baptist Church Youth Group, and the Woodward Theater Group. 

When asked why she wanted to join FFA Mary Katherine said that her family has always been involved in the agriculture community and this was a way to further her knowledge as well as gain experience in the public speaking competitions. Inside of the FFA Mary Katherine participates in prepared public speaking as well as multiple CDE competitions. Her favorite FFA memory was when she won her category at the first speech contest she attended. 

Mary Katherine stated that FFA has not only taught her how to become a better public speaker but it has also helped her self confidence to grow. Holding a chapter office is a very big responsibility. Chapter officers are given a platform to be leaders and help to grow and lead the chapter to success. Mary Katherine feels that as an officer she can make a positive change in our chapter and one of her personal goals is to get more members to join and become involved in the Laverne FFA.

Mary Katherine's favorite inspirational quote is, “Darkness can not drive out darkness only light can do that.” by Martin Luther King Jr. Some other favorites of Mary Katherine are singing, dancing, acting, the movies “The Hunger Games”, and any song by Taylor Swift. Mary Katherine says her hero is her grandma because she is a strong and faithful woman.
