FFA is a great organization that is full of amazing opportunities but these activities do not happen on their own. Agriculture Education teachers are some of the most hardworking, dedicated, and loyal people you will ever meet. The hours and time spent perfecting and coordinating every detail of their chapter is just a fraction of what ag teachers do throughout the year.
In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the advisor states, “The owl is a time honored symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Being older than the rest of you, I am asked to advise you from time to time as need arises. I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom.” Read along and get to know all about your new ag teacher, Mr. Gary Nagle.
Mr. Nagle’s beginnings were on a farm in Berlin, Oklahoma and he attended and graduated from Elk City High School in 1988. He then went to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University where he studied animal science for two years before moving back to raise his family. Mr. Nagle later finished his college education at Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he got his animal science and agronomy degrees. His careers before becoming an ag teacher include auto parts salesmen and truck driving.
When Mr. Nagle was in high school he was in FFA for four years as a part of the Elk City FFA Chapter. During his time he participated in showing pigs, sheep, and cattle, as well as doing livestock judging and public speaking. He held the office of sentinel in his chapter. In 1988, he received his State Degree at the Oklahoma FFA State Convention.
Mr. Nagle feels as though the things FFA has taught him and the lifetime friendships, experiences, and lessons he has gained from this organization are irreplaceable and have helped him many times throughout life. His interest in becoming an ag teacher originated in high school because of the impact his high school ag teacher had on him. While at Oklahoma Panhandle State University Mr. Nagle met Dr. Jay Lark who was a teacher in the OPSU ag department at the time. Mr. Nagle believes that through Dr. Lark his fire for teaching ag was relit.
Mr. Nagle now has four children and four grandchildren. He loves gummy bears and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He would like to say thank you to the Laverne community and school system for their acceptance and warm welcome to him. Your new Laverne FFA ag teacher, Mr. Gary Nagle.
