Thanksgiving, a time of family, friends, and most importantly lots of really good food. From turkey to pumpkin pie many different types of food are prepared across the U.S. on Thanksgiving. Although there is one common factor between every food prepared.
Farmers and ranchers are responsible for all food placed on the table during Thanksgiving and everyday. Living in northwest Oklahoma farming and ranching is vital to our economy. But to many others it is not and becomes overlooked. Farmers and ranchers work through tough conditions, unavoidable weather, and many other adversities to feed not only our nation but also our world.
The state of Oklahoma ranks fourth in the nation for agricultural production meaning we feed about 33% of the nation. This is truly something to be proud of and a defining statement about the people of our state.
So the next time that you sit down to enjoy any meal, remember to thank your farmers and ranchers for all they do because thankfulness should not stop at Thanksgiving.
