Get to Know Your New Ag Teacher: Mr. Goyen

Posted Date: 02/07/2025

FFA is a great organization that is full of amazing opportunities but these activities do not happen on their own. Agriculture Education teachers are some of the most hardworking, dedicated, and loyal people you will ever meet. The hours and time spent perfecting and coordinating every detail of their chapter is just a fraction of what ag teachers do throughout the year.

In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the advisor states, “The owl is a time honored symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Being older than the rest of you, I am asked to advise you from time to time as need arises. I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom.” Read along and get to know all about your new ag teacher, Mr. Thomas Goyen.

Mr. Goyen graduated from Seiling in 2006 and then attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University where he graduated in 2011. He graduated with a major in Agricultural Education with a double minor in Agronomy and Animal Science. Goyen did his student teaching at Laverne Schools in the fall of 2010.

When asked why he wanted to become an ag teacher Mr. Goyen said, “I wanted to be able to share with others the impact that my ag teacher and the FFA had on me.” When Mr. Goyen was in FFA he was a very active member, he participated in livestock judging, showing pigs, trapshooting, giving creed, and ag mechanics. He also held the office of Vice President two years in a row.

Laverne FFA Chapter Sentinel, Kylen Kamp, said, “I think Mr. Goyen will leave a great impact on our chapter. He has already shown that he is committed and willing to do what is best for all the members and that is something truly admirable.”

As the new school year is underway and activities of all types are in full swing keep in mind there is always someone behind the scenes making it run smoothly. Laverne is truly blessed with many great school faculty and community members who never hesitate to lend a hand. Give a ‘Thank You’ to these people as often as you can and make sure to give a big Laverne welcome to your new Laverne FFA Chapter Advisor, Mr. Goyen.
