In the first two weeks of July, eight members of the Laverne FFA Chapter attended the annual FFA Alumni Leadership Camp. These members were Camdyn Kolbe, Cy Bentley, Kylen Kamp, Kensli Shaffer, Timber Baker, Selah Bentley, Ben Scott, and Dallie McAtee. The camp took place in Binger, OK and was three days long. This years theme was “Linked: Communicate to Connect”.
At Alumni Camp members are split up into small groups with students from other chapters across the state. This camp is designed to push attendees out of their comfort zones and encourage them to meet new people. Water Olympics, General Sessions, Hot Spots, and Small Group Sessions are just a few of the very exciting activities that take place during the time at camp.
When asked what her favorite part of camp was and why, Laverne FFA member,Dallie McAtee, said ,”My favorite part was getting to meet new people from all over the state of Oklahoma knowing that those connections will last a lifetime.”
This year’s focus of camp was communication. Members at camp learned about five main types of communication. These included interpersonal, intrapersonal, responsible, family, and lasting communication. Communication is a huge part of being successful in not only FFA but life.
A parting quote members were given before leaving camp was one by John C. Maxwell. This quote states, “The measure of a leader is not the number of people who serve them, but the number of people they serve.” FFA Alumni Leadership Camp is a great FFA tradition and only one of many leadership programs Laverne FFA attends throughout the year.
