Get to Know Your Officers: Sentinel Kylen Kamp

In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the sentinel states, “Through this door pass many friends of the FFA. It is my duty to see that the door is open to our friends at all times and that they are welcome. I care for the meeting room and paraphernalia. I strive to keep the room comfortable and assist the president in maintaining order.” This gives a brief description of the responsibilities the chapter sentinel holds. Kylen will be a junior this fall at Laverne High School. When Kylen is not participating in FFA he spends his time working on the farm and hanging out with friends. Kylen decided to join FFA because, “it’s all I have ever known.” Kylen stated. “I have been showing pigs since before I could walk, literally.” Kylen said. His older brother, Kolby, started showing as soon as he was old enough to be in 4-H and Kylen followed right in those footsteps. Kylen remembers always looking up to the older kids in the blue and gold jackets. Finally after what seemed like forever Kylen got his very own corduroy jacket. Since becoming an FFA member Kylen has stayed active participating in showing, livestock judging, and welding. 

The best memory Kylen has from FFA comes from his first year as a member. After a year of hard work Kylen won Champion Chester at OYE. His win was followed by a ride in limo. Kylens funniest memories come from the time spent listening to music with Mrs. Kolbe on trips to contests. 

Kylen decided to run for an office again this year for many reasons. His mom and ag teacher, Mr.Wetherell, pushed him to run again. Kylen also feels that it helped him to become a better leader and stay involved. As a second year officer Kylen knows the importance of goal setting. His goals for this year are to be as active as possible. He would also like to help others find their place and be the best they can. 

Some of Kylen’s hobbies include roping, riding horses, and tubing at the lake. Kylen’s favorites inspiring quote is “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. - C.S. Lewis” Some of Kylen’s favorite things are the movie “The Man From Snowy River”, the color green, the band Flatland Cavalry, and any kind of Mexican food.
