In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the reporter states “As the flag covers the United States of America, so I strive to inform the people in order that every man, woman, and child may know that the FFA is a national organization that reaches from the state of Alaska to the Virgin Islands and from the state of Maine to Hawaii.” These words are just a short summary of the duties held by a chapter reporter. Read along and learn all about your 2023-2024 Laverne FFA Chapter Reporter, Kensli Shaffer.
Kensli will be a sophomore this upcoming year at Laverne High School. Outside of the blue jacket Kensli spends her time participating in Laverne FCCLA, Laverne Student Council, Laverne High School Cheerleading, ASCT Competition Cheer Team, High School Academic Team, and working at Collective Roots. Kensli decided to join FFA because it is something many of her friends and family did and thrived in. “I have always heard of the life lessons and impact the FFA experience has provided for people and wanted to try it for myself.” Kensli said. Since joining Kensli has been active in her chapter participating in giving speeches, doing Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Freshman Quiz Bowl, and other CDE’s.
The best memory Kensli has from her time in FFA is meeting new people at state convention and eating free ice cream for breakfast with Ms. Butler. The funniest story Kensli has from FFA was at the state contests in Stillwater when she got poked in the eye and Mr. Wetherell’s wise words of advice were “You’ll be fine.”
Kensli decided to run for an office because of the leadership experience and life lessons it will provide. “I want to get more people involved and teach them what FFA is all about, I feel being an officer puts me in a great position to do just that.” Kensli said. In order to get more people involved and interested officers must set goals for their chapter. Kensli’s goals for her chapter are to get everyone involved in the area of FFA that fits them so that they can be successful and have fun while doing that. She also would like to help incoming members explore all the different activities inside of FFA. Setting personal goals is also a huge part in being successful as a member and role model to others. Some personal goals Kensli has for herself is to start participating in more activities, write many articles as reporter to help educate people on FFA and agriculture, compete at the state level in prepared public speaking, and lastly to someday run for a state office.
In her free time, Kensli enjoys reading books, hanging out with her best friend, babysitting, shopping, and spending time cooking with her family. Kensli’s favorite inspiring verse is “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33” Some of Kensli’s favorite things are the color orange, football, anything by Zach Bryan or Turnpike Troubadours, and the movie Facing the Giants. She is described by her friends as outgoing, determined, and fearless. Your 2023-2024 Laverne FFA Chapter Reporter, Kensli Shaffer.
