In the FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies the secretary states, “I keep an accurate record of all meetings and correspond with other secretaries wherever corn is grown and FFA members meet.” This gives a brief description of the duties held by a chapter secretary. Read along and get to know your 2023-2024 Laverne FFA Chapter Secretary, Selah Bentley.
Selah will be a junior this upcoming year at Laverne High School. Selahs spends her time outside of FFA participating in numerous things such as track, cross country, and being active in her youth group at First Baptist Church of Laverne. Selah is also this one of this years drum majors for the Laverne Tiger Band. When asked why she joined FFA Selah said, “I decided to join FFA because it was something my family has always been apart of. Little did I know it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.” Inside of FFA Selah enjoys participating in shooting sports, showing swine, livestock judging, and giving speeches.
The best memory Selah has had in FFA was when she found out she was in the top three for officer interviews, guaranteeing her a spot on this years officer team. Selahs funniest story from her time in FFA was when she was at state convention. “I drank some coffee too late in the evening and was to hyper to sleep, my roomates were not happy.” Selah said.
Selah said she wanted to become an officer because of her friends and family who had been officers before her. “Being an officer taught them so many things and carried them all far in life, and that was an experience I wanted for myself.” Selah said. Selah is so excited for this chance to grow as a leader and step outside of her comfort zone. There are so many exciting things the next year will hold. As an officer it is important to set goals for the upcoming year, and Selah has many great goals set for herself and her chapter. She would like to get as many students involved in FFA as possible because she believes that there is a place for everyone to strive in FFA. Through her officer position Selah would like to grow as a leader, learn to get outside of her comfort zone, and try new things.
Selah loves to spend her free time doing many things, but some of her favorite hobbies include hunting, fishing, painting, and spending quality time with her family. Selahs favorite inspiring verse is “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good, acceptable, and perfect. Some of Selah’s favorite things are the movie The Hunger Games, the color turquoise, and listening to country music. She is described by her friends as reliable, good-hearted, and a light to all.
