As the 2022-2023 school year has come to an end a new Officer Team has been elected. The Officer Team is responsible for many things throughout the year including being the leaders of the Laverne FFA Chapter. It is important that the community is familiar with those in these leadership positions. Read along and get to know your 2023-2024 Laverne FFA Chapter President, Kresta Badley.
As stated in the FFA Opening and Closing ceremonies, “The rising sun is the token of a new era in agriculture. If we follow the leadership of our president, we shall be led out of the darkness of selfishness and into the glorious sunlight of brotherhood and cooperation.” This is a general description of the duties held by a chapter president.
Kresta Badley will be an upcoming senior this year at Laverne High School. She is involved in many activities such as cross country, basketball, track, and her church youth group. Growing up Kresta recalls always seeing people wearing the blue and gold jackets but never thinking much of it. When it came time to choose her classes for the 8th grade year she became interested in an agriculture class. Through that class she learned what FFA was all about. She learned the importance of teaching others about agriculture and leadership. That was when Kresta knew this was something she wanted to strive in. Inside of FFA Kresta participates in public speaking, shooting sports, and livestock judging.
Krestas fondest memory in her time as an FFA member was going to the Oklahoma State FFA Convention and getting to be around so many others who shared her love for agriculture. She also enjoyed the time spent hanging out with her fellow chapter members. When asked about the most funny experience she has had in the FFA she replied “One evening on the way back to our hotel after State Convention we ran out of gas. We sat on the side of the road patiently waiting for Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Kolbe to return with gas. I didn’t think it was very humorous at the time but when I look back now I can’t help but laugh.”
Kresta stated that the reason she ran for an office was because of her dad's encouragement. “At the time I didn’t see the point in trying to become an officer,” Kresta said. “It required a ton of work and would place a lot of responsibility on me.” Krestas dad told her to
try something new and she might just be surprised by the amazing opportunity she could’ve missed out on. Kresta gave it a go and he was right, she loved it. Kresta would like to say a huge thank you to her dad for pushing her to get where she is today. As president Kresta has many goals. She would like to continue to inspire others to get involved in FFA and try new things as well as share the knowledge and importance of agriculture. A personal goal of hers is to run for a state officer position. Running for a state office is a huge task and we would like to say good luck and we’re cheering for you!
Some of Krestas hobbies include spending time with friends, traveling, singing, playing sports, and helping others. Her favorite inspirational verse comes from Philippians 4:13 and says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Some of Krestas favorite things are the color turquoise, pickles and spreading the love of Jesus everywhere she goes. She enjoys listening to Zach Bryan especially the song Tishomingo. Her friends describe her as smart, responsible, out going, and pure hearted. Your 2023-2024 Laverne FFA Chapter President, Kresta Badley.
